We the People of Alaska |
wHAT IS "wE THE pEOPLE of alaska"
The "We the People of Alaska" Questions found on this website were developed by The Institute of the North as part of a student competition sponsored by the Institute. The purpose of the competition was developed to:
• Help high-school students better understand Alaska issues of historic and current significance
• Encourage high school students to explore their individual and civic rights and responsibilities
• Provide Alaska Studies teachers and students a unique tool for studying key Alaska questions
• Challenge students to strengthen their collaborative and analytic skills
• Deliver to Alaska Studies classes an additional mechanism for student evaluation.
The "Alaska We the People" Competition is modeled after We the People (United States) developed by the Center for Civic Education.
Many teachers in the Anchorage School District use the Institute of the North "We the People of Alaska" Questions/Format as a culminating activity for students in Alaska Studies classes.
The intent of this website is to provide basic information for students necessary to begin the research process. The Research links lists are not meant to be complete. Students are expected to take the next step in finding further information and perspectives in answering the questions.
If you have any comments and/or questions please contact Debbie Benson - Teacher Anchorage School District.
